Junior Security Analyst

The Junior Security Analyst position in the Technology Infrastructure group at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) will provide network vulnerability testing, monitoring and network security compliance audits to ensure best practices are in use and network systems comply with TACC security policies.

Selected candidate for this position must be eligible to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring the TACC network for vulnerabilities and assisting TACC staff.
  • Performs network vulnerability testing, monitoring and network security compliance audits to ensure best practices are in use and network systems comply with TACC security policies.
  • Implements solutions to improve the security of the network. Consults with TACC staff to ensure best practices are being applied and compromised systems are properly remediated.
  • Provides assistance in the configuration and maintenance of security related hardware and software tools to safeguard unauthorized access to computer systems and files.
  • Participates in responses to network security incidents, investigations, reporting of findings, and the implementation of remediation. Participates in training TACC staff in network security awareness and procedures.
  • Keeps current with IT network security, industry best practices, and the software and hardware tools to support a secure TACC network. Monitors professional trends in assigned areas. Performs related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with at least 5 years or experience designing or maintaining a macro network communication system, or Bachelor’s degree in information security, computer science, engineering or similar technical field of study with at least 1 year of relevant IT experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong self-starting and time-management skills
  • Adept at learning new technologies and systems
  • Passion for Information Security
  • Willingness to continually improve skills
  • Familiarity with Linux command line

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with IDS/IPS (zeek is preferred)
  • Firewalls (Juniper is preferred)
  • SIEM (splunk is preferred)
  • Vulnerability Scanners
  • Linux and Windows system administration at scale
  • Managing systems with ansible
  • Hands on experience programming in Python
  • Certifications such as SANS
