Senior Research Computing Systems Engineer

About the Role

You will be helping to support the innovative research being carried out using the University of Southampton’s High Performance Computing facilities. You will be joining a team of dedicated research computing engineers who are supporting the current systems and their use in a range of real-world problem-solving research topics. From Quantum Chemistry simulations and AI modelling for future technologies to Climate modelling the impact of climate change, medical imaging to support medical diagnosis advances and COVID-19 research. Come join the team as we refresh our on-premises clusters and start looking the use cloud HPC to explore new architectures.

What you’ll do 

  • Take a leading role in delivering and maintaining the University’s High Performance and Data Intensive Computing facilities.
  • Working proactively with a wide range of the University’s research community to exploit the full potential of our facilities.
  • Planning major systems installations and upgrades.
  • Delivering training programmes to research students and mentor colleagues.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience of the use of high-performance computing in research or industry.
  • Knowledge of working within a large-scale Linux server environment.
  • Drive and enthusiasm with the ability to communicate well with others
  • An enquiring mind eager to learn new technologies and support scientific endeavour.

Interviews for this role will be held between 16th and 21st December 2021.
