The University of Luxembourg (UL) is seeking to hire a set of postdoctoral fellows within the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine linked to HPC service of the University of Luxembourg led by Prof. Pascal Bouvry.
Since 2006, the University of Luxembourg has invested in its own High-Performance Computing (HPC) facilities. Special focus was laid on developing large computing power combined with huge data storage capacity to accelerate the research performed in intensive computing and large-scale data analytics (Big Data). This characteristic distinguishes the HPC center at the university from many other HPC facilities, which often concentrate on only one of these two pillars. Nowadays, the UL HPC team is deeply involved in national and European HPC developments. Further information can be found on hpc.uni.lu. The activities include classical HPC applications such as simulation and modeling, but also emerging ones including artificial intelligence and machine learning, bridging computational science, with data science, and data management (IoT/Edge/HPC).
The research and education high-level support team (HLST) of the HPC service aims at:
– Providing research support to the University research projects across faculties and interdisciplinary centers
– Providing dedicated application support to projects through benchmarking, code optimization or code portability, scalability of applications, collaborations for projects requiring refactoring of codes
– Providing advanced support to the University HPC users
– Providing teaching and educational support to the University bachelor, master and PhD programs as well as life-long learning activities
– Providing support to external partners and industry using the University HPC
– Participating in the national and European efforts in matters of HPC through the HPC Competence center in collaboration with the national HPC center (LuxProvide) and Luxinnovation
– Working on energy-efficient solutions for HPC
To this end, the postdocs will conduct the following tasks:
– Perform cutting research and education tasks in the fields of HPC/HPDA/AI
– Manage the software set and related frameworks
– Provide high-level support to internal and external partners,
– Assisting the setup of the teaching framework on HPC skills
– Collaborate with the Partnership officer and the Technology Transfer Office on the skills and technology access framework
– Participate in the research, education, and training activities across faculties and interdisciplinary centers
– Writing funding demands and scientific articles in the field
What we expect from you:
– PhD degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent degree
– Advanced Know-How in the fields of HPC, HPDA and AI, in particular, parallel programming, use of AI on HPC, the management of software stacks using Easybuild or Spack
– Experience in a research environment
– Experience with the industry is a plus
– Great communication skills
