The Center for Computational Research at the University at Buffalo (https://buffalo.edu/ccr) has an opening for a research computing and data science facilitator. This is a newly formed position resulting from an institutional commitment to support over 200 new faculty hires over the next 2 years. CCR provides the research computing infrastructure and services for the University at Buffalo and we’re looking to enhance our ability to provide dedicated support to researchers across disciplines. You’ll have the opportunity to define and develop new services, interact directly with faculty to help enable their ground breaking research, and work with a dedicated team of high performance computing specialists.
The ideal candidate for this position is:
- a problem solver with excellent troubleshooting skills, a strong sense of duty, and patience
an excellent written and oral communicator with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical people - effective working with a team of IT professionals with the ability to self-direct and adjust to shifts in priorities
- comfortable working in a Linux environment with experience in high performance computing environments
- someone who values and appreciates different perspectives and diverse backgrounds, works to continually learn and improve, and interested in mentoring students
Salary range: $75,000-90,000 USD depending on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Location: This position offers a very flexible hybrid work schedule allowing you to work from your choice of locations several days per week. However, currently the State University of New York system does not offer fully remote positions. CCR’s primary location is on the University at Buffalo’s downtown medical campus with access to mass transit, restaurants, stores, and many social activities.
About the area: Buffalo and the greater Western NY area is in a full scale resurgence with a beautiful redevelopment of the waterfront, restoration of historic buildings, tons of new restaurants and libation shops, a vibrant arts scene, excellent schools, and an enthusiastic sports culture. The four seasons are truly lovely and if you really hate snow, we really don’t get as much as the media leads everyone to believe. You can work from home on those days. If you like snow, there are some great skiing areas just south of Buffalo.
