Turing-Exeter Postdoctoral Researcher in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

This full-time post is available immediately, fixed term until 31st December 2022 with a possibility of extension.  This role (Turing-Exeter Postdoctoral Researcher in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence) offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home. Secondments from within the University of Exeter are welcome.

 

Summary of the role/position

The Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence is seeking to appoint Researchers to support the development of new interdisciplinary data science and artificial intelligence research in collaboration with the Alan Turing Institute.

 

This position will provide resource to support pilot research projects involving Turing Fellows based in Exeter, leading to new research collaborations and future bids for funding that will expand research in Exeter related to Turing’s research challenges.

 

Candidates will have a high level of computational skills and analytical ability, as well as be able to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of groups, including scientists from outside their own immediate research area and members of the public, and will be able to participate as part of an interdisciplinary team to develop new research ideas.

 

The successful candidate will have an interest in applying their data science knowledge to a broad range of societal challenges spanning multiple disciplines. Working with experts at Exeter and across the Turing network will provide a unique environment for the appointed Researcher to establish their own independent research careers within the data science and artificial intelligence domain. Postdoctoral Researchers are expected to become strong candidates for future applications for independent research fellowships.

Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

The Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IDSAI) is developing innovative approaches to the use of data and artificial intelligence in modern society. The IDSAI is a step change in the University of Exeter’s data analytic capabilities, bringing together expertise from across all Exeter Colleges to enable cutting edge fundamental research, drive new collaborations and create transformative impact. As members of the IDSAI, the post-holders will benefit from being part of a vibrant, world-leading interdisciplinary research environment.

The IDSAI is also the focus for Exeter’s relationship with the Alan Turing Institute and hosts 40 Turing Fellows along with a number of Turing research projects. The post-holder will have the opportunity to work with researchers at Turing Headquarters in London as well as at Turing partner organisations, and will be expected to undertake occasional travel for this purpose.
