Context And Mission
We are seeking a skilled Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to manage and optimize our Kubernetes, OpenStack, Hadoop, and Apache Spark environments, ensuring seamless performance and user experience, for giving support to BSC multidisciplinary researchers and be part of the data management team of the BSC.
The funding for these actions/fellowships and contracts comes from the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility – Next Generation, within the framework of the General Invitation by the public business entity Red.es to participate in the talent attraction and retention programs within Investment 4 of Component 19 of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

Key Duties
Deploy, manage, and maintain Kubernetes clusters using Rancher. Optimize Kubernetes clusters for performance, scalability, and security.
Manage and maintain OpenStack infrastructure. Configure and optimize OpenStack services.
Monitor and troubleshoot to ensure high availability.
Deploy and manage Hadoop clusters. Optimize Hadoop for data processing and storage.
Manage and maintain Apache Spark applications. Ensure the stability and performance of Spark workloads.
Integrate Kubernetes, OpenStack, Hadoop, and Spark environments.
Implement best practices for big data processing and security.
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics or related fields.
Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience with Kubernetes (Rancher) and OpenStack.
Proficiency in Hadoop and Apache Spark.
Experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible).
Good understanding of networking and security.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Familiarity with Docker, Prometheus, Grafana.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
Knowledge of agile and DevOps practices.
Use IaC tools like Terraform and Ansible for automation.
Fluency in English.
Good written and verbal communication skills in Spanish.
Competences
Strong scripting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team to complete tasks on schedule.
Conditions
The position will be located at BSC within the Operations Department
We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance
Duration: 4 years
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
Salary: 50.000,00 €
Additional Expenses Grant: Each fellowship will be associated with a grant for additional expenses, such as IT equipment, travel, training, stays, etc.
Starting date: asap – the incorporation for this vacancy must be before the 16th of December 2024
