The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) operates one of the most powerful supercomputer infrastructures in Europe and will be hosting the first EU Exascale supercomputer JUPITER. We make computing resources available to scientists at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in Germany, and in Europe. To support users on the supercomputer systems, JSC uses its expertise in the field of High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing and Data Science. JSC’s division “HPC, Cloud and Data Systems and Services” is responsible for the installation and operation of JUPITER, we actively push supercomputing in Europe to the Exascale era! In addition, we are responsible for the planning, integration and operation of some of the largest supercomputing (JUWELS, JURECA), cloud (JSC Cloud) and high-performance storage (JUST) resources in the facility using cutting-edge hardware and software technologies. Your Job:

You will be working with our team on the design, implementation and maintenance of system configurations, software tools and services for our supercomputers and cloud infrastructure. Depending on qualification and interests you will

  • Contribute to the deployment and operation of new systems and their integration with external infrastructures
  • Perform benchmarking and system tuning
  • Perform research on – and develop tools for – system operation and monitoring of supercomputers
  • Investigate and resolve user problems as part of the third-level support
  • Contribute to infrastructure-oriented research projects
  • Evaluate leading-edge hardware and software technologies
  • Cooperate with leading hardware and software vendors
  • Participate in on-call service handling system incidents

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor or Master degree from a university with internationally accepted quality standards in informatics, mathematics, or a related subject
  • Strong knowledge of Linux in the areas of installation and administration and ideally system optimization
  • Sound knowledge in Python and script languages (Bash, etc.). Ideally knowledge in further relevant programming languages (C/C++/Go/Rust)
  • Previous experience with high-performance computing or cloud technologies is a plus
  • Willingness to contribute with talks to international conferences and participate in courses and tutorials
  • Good command of English and preferably good knowledge of German
  • Structured and systematic working style as well as ability for cooperative work in teams

The position is initially for a fixed term of 2 years, with possible long-term prospects. Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund), pay group 11 or 13, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.
