    Infrastructure Analyst (within the HPC Team)

    We are looking for someone to: 

    • provide practical support to users of our computational platforms (HPC/HTC) via a ticketing system and in-person/via video, with guidance from the rest of the team (65%);
    • help the team deliver face-to-face training courses (15%);
    • assist with the maintenance of our on-site computational platforms (HPC/HTC) (20%)

    Most of the role involves on the job learning, but there will be some opportunity to undertake self learning.

    Funding has been secured to ensure that where the appointed individual performs well there will be an opportunity to be considered for promotion to the next grade.

    The successful candidate will:

    • Have a good knowledge of Linux, with experience of using the command line and system administration tasks such as user management, file permissions and system troubleshooting.
    • Know how to install applications in a Linux environment, with familiarity of doing so beyond package management systems an advantage
    • Have at least 1 year of experience in an IT helpdesk role.
    • Enjoy working with people, displaying empathy for them and helping them with things that they may be finding challenging.
    • Possess an aptitude to solve problems and think on their feet, but also not be afraid to ask for help.
    • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
    • Have good face-to-face and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
