    Administrative unit: Research Area Scientific Computing

    Extent of employment: 40 hours per week

    Job Description: Managing and developing a small, highly professional team of HPC technicians and analysts who provide HPC services and support to scientists and students at the University of Innsbruck.
    Further development of the university’s HPC agendas in close coordination with research and management representatives, national collaboration partners, and scientific research on the topic. Knowledge transfer in teaching and continuing education is also involved. 

    Your tasks:

    • Strategic and operational management of the established and successful HPC team
    • Management, support and further development of this team
    • Reporting and strategic advice on HPC and scientific computing agendas to the head of the Research Area Scientific Computing and the university management
    • Ongoing dialogue and negotiations with other research institutions/HPC operators, funding bodies and clients
    • Conception and implementation of strategic projects in HPC and scientific computing
    • Operational activities at HPC systems as well as supporting and advising scientists in their research projects
    • Budget planning and controlling
    • Representation of the university at national and international scientific and technical events
    • Collaboration in research activities
    • Independent organisation of courses and holding of examinations

    Your profile:

    • Completed relevant doctoral or PhD degree programme
    • Several years of technical expertise in HPC and/or cloud solutions
    • Experience in relevant project acquisition and project work/management at national and EU level
    • Experience in leading small and medium-sized teams
    • Familiarity with the HPC landscape in AT & EU
    • Experience in university teaching (preferably relevant in the SC area) as well as in service and support for user groups
    • Relevant publications are an advantage
    • Knowledge of university administrative structures and processes is an advantage
    • Management and project experience in a non-university environment is an advantage
    • Expertise in quantum computing as a future technology in the HPC environment is an advantage
    • Excellent German and English language skills
    • High social competence, in particular strong organisational, team and communication skills as well as service orientation, innovative and creative spirit
    • Ability to work under pressure, decisiveness and conflict resolution skills
